How it started
Already in 2005, Johannes Lankester, 19 years old, entered the municipality of Sneek (now Sudwest Fryslan) with plans for urban agriculture: building a bridge between the city of Sneek and the surrounding countryside. It was immediately clear that it had to be the Ivige Leane 24, in the future Harinxmaland district. The farm where Johannes always cycled past on his way from the parental farm to high school in Sneek. 18 kilometers up and down every day. If only you could live so close to Sneek and yet in the countryside! The Ivige Leane 24 was the ideal place. This was already clear when Herma and Johannes met each other. And although Herma was not planning to return to Sneek after a number of years abroad and Randstad, that handsome farmer's son convinced her. A baby on the way sealed it. And with that the adventure began. It took many years before it finally happened. Johannes went to study in Wageningen and commuted daily back and forth between Wageningen and the anti-squat farm in Greonterp that the couple now occupied, much to their joy. Now 3 children and the same number of houses later, they finally bought their big dream in 2016: City Farm De Sibbe was born.
The Sibbe
In Germanic times, the ancient Frisians lived together in sibbes. A tribe, a community, including all ancestors and future descendants. The English word sibblings has its origins here. The sibbe shared the common agricultural lands, the meent. The basis for today's "church". Taking care of each other, food and nature together with the community. This is the basis for De Sibbe City Farm.
